One week after he was arrested on domestic violence charges, Denver Broncos edge rusher Jonathon Cooper has been arrested again.
According to police records obtained by Mike Klis of 9News, Cooper was arrested Thursday night after violating a protection order against him stemming from a domestic dispute with his girlfriend on June 4.

Cooper was booked into the Douglas County Jail on two domestic violence charges as well as one for harassment based on repeated phone calls and a fourth for violating the protection order. Cooper is expected to appear in Douglas County Court on Friday.
According to police records, the June 4 incident allegedly occurred over cheating allegations and a physical struggle took place between Cooper and his girlfriend.
They originally both faced two charges of domestic violence and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief after their arrests.
However, according to court records cited by Klis, Cooper has since had a felony charge of second-degree assault and a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault added to his original charges.
“The upcharges against Cooper appear to be a result of his girlfriend’s account of the incident to officer Victoria Rodriguez on the night of the incident,” Klis reported.
Cooper has pled not guilty to the criminal mischief charge and has a hearing set for July 6 and a jury trial scheduled for July 22.
Jonathon Cooper could face NFL discipline
Along with facing the criminal charges, Cooper will also be looking at possible discipline from the NFL stemming from his legal trouble.
The league has stated it is in contact with the Broncos, who put out a statement saying, “we are aware of the matter and gathering more information.”
“And now the process plays out,” Broncos head coach Payton said on Thursday. “The league obviously will be very much involved in that. We’ll stay abreast, but much like you all. I think that’s where it’s at. We just go from there. … We’ll stay as informed as possible. We’ll follow the league’s guidelines, and I’m sure a lot of that will be led by the local authorities’ guidelines. We’ll pay attention to all of it.”
Cooper was a seventh-round pick of the Broncos in 2021 and has emerged as a key member of the team’s elite defense over the past three seasons.
