The Boston Red Sox had to send Brayan Belloo down to Triple-A Worcester after his struggles in the big leagues continued.

Bello's season so far has been odd, to say the least. He has struggled as a starter, but has thrived when he pitches behind an opener. In eight starts, he had a 10.35 ERA, struck out just 22 batters and allowed 21 walks. However, in 25 innings as a bulk pitcher, he had a 0.71 ERA and issued just three walks to his 22 strikeouts.

The Red Sox want him to be a starter, and sent him down to iron things out. However, his first Triple-A start will have to wait a little longer. He was scheduled to start for the WooSox on Thursday in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Rochester Red Wings, but the game was postponed due to weather.

According to WooSox reporter Tommy Cassell, Bello warmed up for the game before the tarp came out. He will now look to start on Saturday in what is scheduled to be the fifth game against Rochester.

Bello's struggles are confusing. His success as a bulk pitcher shows that the stuff is there, and it is working. However, he cannot seem to put things together when he starts the game. Considering he is coming off his best season, it is not something the Red Sox expected.

Bello had a 3.35 ERA in 29 games last year, and came out of the bullpen just once. He threw 166 2/3 innings, striking out 124 batters and issuing 59 walks. This was supposed to be the season he turned into an elite starter, but he has failed to do so. Hopefully, some time in Worcester can get him back to pitching like he did last season.
