For many NFL players, it's easy to get carried away with the fame and money, especially as rookies. Getting so much, so fast can be overwhelming for young players.

Surprisingly, it wasn't for New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski. Although he has a reputation for being a party guy, Gronkowski said he was extremely frugal as a rookie with the Patriots in 2010.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Gronkowski revealed how he lived off the $50,000 advance his agent gave him along with all of the free perks that come with being an NFL player.

"I was able to purchase my first car, which was a 2008 Escalade, and then to be able to pay rent once I got to New England. And then from there on out, I really didn't need any other money," Gronkowski explained. "I was getting free meals at the facility. I just kind of needed gas money. You go out, the drinks are free or you pay for one, you get 10 free when you're when you're on the Patriots up in the Boston area."

Living a relatively low-key life and having a roommate also helped the big tight end save money, which is important for NFL players given how short their careers tend to be.

"I just lived off my marketing dollars. I was living a low-level life. I had a condo with a roommate that was on the team as well. We're paying $1,500 a month in rent while in the NFL," Gronkowski added. "I was very frugal and that's how I got away with it. Not having any lavish purchases, the first couple years in the league and just banking away what I was making because I truly understood that the NFL stands for not for long."

Gronkowski did end up having a long career, playing 11 seasons in the NFL and earning tens of millions of dollars. However, he barely touched his salary during his playing days, mostly living off his endorsement money.
