Is this why rookie edge rusher Gabe Jacas has missed Patriots OTAs?
· Yahoo Sports
New England Patriots rookie second-round draft pick Gabe Jacas has yet to participate in OTAs, and ESPN's Mike Reiss shared his thoughts on why that might be.
Some have wondered if it's a contract situation, but Reiss said that he would be surprised if money was the reason for Jacas' absence. Instead, he focused on the young edge rusher's health. It could all be a simple case of the Patriots erring on the side of caution with a player they are hoping makes an immediate impact this season.

“I would be surprised if it was the contract. I was told by someone that I feel like would have the information that he should be back soon," Reiss said on the Patriots Real Time Podcast. "...So I don’t sense that this is any major alarm. Remember, when he was coming out of Illinois, if I'm not mistaken, he didn't participate in Illinois' pro day because he had a hamstring injury.
"My hunch, my instinct—I don't know this for sure—would tell me...like, 'Hey let's shut you down here, make sure that you're right, so that when we get to the start of, call it training camp or another point here in the spring, we feel like you're starting at a good point where you won't have a setback."
Without Jacas on the field, the Patriots look incredibly thin at edge rusher.
The top two options currently are Harold Landry III, who was banged up for most of the 2025 season, and Dre'Mont Jones, who mustered a career-high seven sacks last season. Jacas' status will be something to monitor over the next two months.
The Patriots need help at the edge position, and he figures to be a major piece of the puzzle moving forward.
