Panthers advance to state quarterfinals

MOUNT UNION — The Saegertown baseball team took down Mount Union 7-3 in Monday's PIAA Class 2A first round game.

The Panthers scored in the top of the first thanks to a William Shaffer single that brought home Blake Burchill. Mount Union took the 2-1 lead at the bottom of the inning.
Saegertown waited until the third inning to strike again. After Everett Gardner stole third and Blake Lesile stole second on the same play, Blake Burchill drove them both home on a single to take a 3-2 lead.
On the next at-bat, Shaffer singled to bring in Blake Burchill, to complete the three run inning.
Saegertown gave up a run in the fifth, before adding two in the sixth.
Grayson Burchill and Everett Gardner got on base in the sixth thanks to a walk from Riley Wilkinson, who subbed out for Grayson Burchill and a single from Everett Gardner. On the next at-bat, Levi Gardner doubled to bring both home for the 6-3 lead.
In the seventh, Shaffer scored on a sacrifice fly by Quinton Burchill to add the final run for Saegertown.
With the win, Saegertown advances to Thursday's quarterfinal against Neshannock. A site and time has not been announced.
