Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has admitted that Fermin Lopez will be a big miss for La Roja at World Cup 2026 after being ruled out of the tournament through injury.

Lopez suffered a fractured metatarsal against Real Betis and had to undergo surgery. The midfielder has since admitted he’s found the setback really tough to take.

De la Fuente was asked about Fermin and says he will certainly be missed by Spain but told the Barca star he will get more chacees in the future.

“It’s a shame, yes. I often talk about timing, and these are situations that life throws at you. It seems it wasn’t his time because of this injury. But he’ll have another chance to show what a footballer he is,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“We’re going to miss him a lot because, in addition to what he brought to the team on the pitch, he was also a person I liked very much: so much energy, so much joy, a very beloved member of the group.

“We’re going to miss him terribly, but his time will come, and he’ll have his chance, as I told him the other day when I had the opportunity to speak with him.”

Lopez will now be focused on his recovery and ensuring he’s ready for the start of next season with Barcelona.
