The Boston Red Sox have been on the wrong end of some close games all season, but these past weeks have been particularly painful for fans.

Tuesday night was perhaps the most gutwrenching of all.
The action started with the first back-to-back leadoff home runs the Red Sox have hit in a decade. Then starting pitcher Ranger Suarez spun a gem, bringing a shutout into the fifth inning before surrendering five runs over the next two frames.
Through it all, the Red Sox bats stayed hot and provided the run support they've been missing all season. In the bottom of the ninth, the Red Sox put five runners on base and scored two runs. Wilyer Abreu stepped to the plate with the tying run on second and was unable to finish the ninth-inning rally. Boston lost 7-6 to the first-place Atlanta Braves.
The Minnesota Twins completed their sweep of the Red Sox in the game prior. Once again, the Red Sox were leading halfway through the contest before surrendering three runs in the sixth. A ninth-inning rally was sparked, but the tying runner got stranded at third, and the Twins won 6-5.
The other two one-run losses came in pitchers' duels when Boston's bats were still struggling.
It's difficult to imagine that the Red Sox were one swing away in several games this month alone from sporting a 26-27 record, as opposed to their current 22-31 last-place standing.
