Bayern Munich midfielder and German national team captain Joshua Kimmich was recently asked about his opinion on the goalkeeping legend’s return to the squad. Kimmich stated he is delighted to have Neuer back in the squad, stressing the importance of the veteran goalkeeper for the national team (Bild via @iMiaSanMia). “I’m extremely happy about that. We’ve been playing together for eleven years now. Everyone knows who we have back there in goal. That’s why I’m so pleased that he’ll be involved,” declared Kimmich.
Kimmich was also reminded of the fact that he will be Neuer’s captain for the first time after receiving the armband following İlkay Gündoğan’s international retirement in 2024, and he did not miss the chance to joke about it. “Yes, that’s true. Now he really needs to get his act together. I hadn’t even thought about that yet. I’ll tell him right away,” said Kimmich with a laugh.
Neuer, on his part, is currently working through a muscular injury that he picked up during Bayern’s last Bundesliga match of the season against 1. FC Köln, and will try everything in his hands to be ready for the international tournament, which starts in around two weeks time.
