2027 Summer Scouting Report: Jamari Sharpe, CB, Indiana

· Yahoo Sports

The story of the Indiana Hoosiers' last season will be told until the end of time. A program that went from bottom dwellers in the Big Ten to National Champions in such a short amount of time was something to behold. One of their key contributors in the secondary, cornerback Jamari Sharpe, is the subject of our next summer scouting report series.

What does the profile look like? Let's talk about it.

  • Height: 6'1"
  • Weight: 187 lbs
  • Recruiting rank: Three-star recruit, no. 75 cornerback nationally
  • Hometown: Miami, Florida
  • Games watched: Penn State, Alabama, Miami

His running mate, D'Angelo Ponds, earned all the praise this season for his play, but now the focus will shift to Sharpe, and rightfully so. Sharpe was a production machine last season, posting 47 tackles with four forced fumbles, seven pass breakups, and an interception coming in the National Championship game on Miami's final drive. Indiana placed Sharpe on an island often this season, with minimal safety help over the top, and thrived. Huge hitter who plays downhill. Smooth backpedal and never seems to stress when he is incorrect on a route.

For as physical a defender as he is, he struggles in the run game supporting in the box. The coverage skills are there, but we'd like to see an uptick in interceptions, with just two total in three seasons. It will also be interesting to see Sharpe as the top cornerback for Indiana in 2026. Don't really love how grabby he gets at the top of routes, as he tries to be in his receiver's pocket at all times.
