Waverly baseball advances to Section IV Class A Championship series, local playoff scores

WAVERLY, N.Y. (WETM) – Sectional playoffs roll on in baseball and softball, throughout the Twin Tiers.

Waverly baseball advanced to the Section IV Class A Championship series, on Friday. The Wolverines powered past Chenango Valley in Game 3 of the semifinal series, earning a 14-3 victory in 6 innings. With their decisive game triumph, Waverly now moves one step closer to their 1st Section IV title since 2013.
On the other side of the bracket, Maine-Endwell took Game 3 from Owego 11-1, to clinch a spot in the championship series. The Spartans have won 5 of the past 6 Class A titles (2019-22, 2024-25), including a state championship in 2024. The championship series begins on Tuesday, May 26th at 5 p.m. in Waverly. Game 2 is set for Thursday, May 28th at Maine-Endwell and an if necessary 3rd game would be played on Friday, May 29th, back in Waverly.
The only other local victors on the night, came from the Section V softball playoffs. Defending state runners-up Haverling topped Livonia 5-1, to advance to the Class B1 semifinals. The Rams will meet Waterloo, for a road semifinal on Tuesday, May 26th. In Class D, Avoca-Prattsburgh punched a ticket to the semifinal round. With a 17-0 rout of Friendship-Scio, AP advances to host Elba on Tuesday.
