Parma coach Cuesta may not stay at the Stadio Tardini after the summer, even though he secured comfortable survival this season with four games remaining.

Cuesta faces uncertain Parma future

Cuesta, a former assistant of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, has become the youngest coach to lead a Serie A team, making his debut with the Ducali at 29 this season.

He was hired by Parma last summer to replace Cristian Chivu, who had secured survival on the final matchday in 2024-25 after replacing Fabio Pecchia in February 2025.

According to Gazzetta newspaper, the impressive result achieved by Cuesta this season, despite the sales of many key players, including Ange-Yoan Bonny, who joined Chivu at Inter, might not be enough for the Spaniard to keep his job.

Parma, in fact, have shown a defensive playing style throughout the season, resulting in one of the least-scoring teams in Serie A. The Ducali netted 27 times in 37 matches, the same as Lecce, only two more than last-placed Verona and Pisa.

They often played with a low block, relying on long balls, set pieces, and counterattacks to score. It was efficient, but Parma might be looking for something different for next season.

According to Gazzetta, most of Parma’s fans are unhappy with the team’s poor playing style this season, and their concerns are shared by some of the club’s directors as well.

Cuesta is under contract until June 2027, with an option to extend until 2028. After the final game of the season against Sassuolo, the Spaniard will meet with the club directors to discuss the next steps.

The pink paper argues that “it would not be surprising to see Parma with another coach next season.”
