The WNBA’s No. 1 overall pick Azzi Fudd was asked about her romantic relationship with Dallas teammate Paige Bueckers at an introductory press conference on Thursday, but a member of the Wings’ PR staff declined comment before Fudd could respond.

Bueckers, the No. 1 pick in 2025 and last season’s WNBA Rookie of the Year, played with Fudd at UConn, where they helped the Huskies win the 2025 national championship. She also announced last year on social media that she and Fudd were romantically involved.
That prompted a question from a reporter for The Dallas Morning News about how the two would navigate being a couple and professional teammates.
“Paige announced last year on TikTok that y’all were a couple, and I’m wondering if that is still the case?” Fudd was asked. “And if so, if y’all have talked to any other couples in the league about how they negotiate that dynamic as pro teammates?”
There are other WNBA teammates who are couples, including Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner on the Phoenix Mercury.
“I understand why you have to ask that question,” a member of the team’s media staff responded. “But we’re going to respectfully decline from commenting on our players’ personal lives.”
Fudd and Bueckers played together at UConn from 2021 through 2025, though injuries limited much of their time together. When they both finally got on the court for extended periods, the two former McDonald’s All-Americans led UConn to the 2025 national title before Bueckers became the No. 1 overall pick.
Fudd averaged 17.3 points a game for UConn this season and led the Huskies through a 38-1 campaign that ended in a Final Four loss to South Carolina. Bueckers averaged 19.2 points and 5.4 assists in her rookie season in Dallas.
