The Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers aren't just in the NHL playoffs. They'll be playing each other in the Eastern Conference first round.

That has the potential to make for some compelling viewing, for sure -- and that's before even considering that the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin will be on the ice.

And as the NHL regular season reaches its conclusion, fans are excited to find out when the series will begin.

When is Penguins-Flyers Game 1?

The NHL has yet to announce it, but there's a reasonable guess to be made that it's Saturday night.

Game 1 in all the playoff series is meant to happen either Saturday or Sunday -- four games in the East, and four games in the West.

The presumption is that two games from each conference will happen on each day.

In the East, the favorite to be the Hockey Night in Canada game on Sunday night has to be Canadiens-Lightning.

The most likely slot for Sabres-Bruins is Saturday afternoon.

And that leaves Hurricanes-Senators and Penguins-Flyers. It feels like the more marquee television matchup is the Philadelphia-Pittsburgh game -- and if that's how the NHL views it, they'd likely want it on Saturday evening.

Everyone will find out soon enough.
