Prep roundup: Decatur, Hartselle win big at tennis sectionals

Apr. 14—Both Decatur and Hartselle came away with championships in day one of the Class 6A, Section 7 tournament on Monday in Decatur.

For Decatur, Evelyn Burnett and Annie Pylant, along with Katherine Botto and Emory Leffers all won doubles championships. Pylant, Botto and Sheridan South both won singles championships.

For Hartselle, Caroline Sparks won a singles championship.

Championship play will resume at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Jimmy John's Tennis Complex at Point Mallard.

Softball

Austin 7, Russellville 6: Arden Breedlove's sacrifice fly gave Austin a walk-off win on Monday. Breedlove finished with a triple and two RBIs, while Charlie Barnes had three RBIs.

Decatur 13, Clements 1: Josey Hendrix drove in five runs for Decatur. Emme Palmer added three RBIs, while Luna Gutierrez had two RBIs. Olivia Moody knocked in Clements' run.

West Limestone 8, Rogers 1: Aubrey Bethune homered and finished with four RBIs for the Wildcats. Anna Hardiman got the win in the circle, allowing two hits with 10 strikeouts.

Athens Bible 15, Decatur Heritage 0: Addie Tucker homered and had two RBIs to lead Athens Bible. Hadley Robinson had three RBIs, while Hannah Robinson and Ava Kate Higginbotham both had two RBIs.

Cullman 14, West Morgan 1: Alyssa Cleveland knocked in West Morgan's run.

West End 1, Brewer 0: Gracie Lawrence pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts for Brewer.

Baseball

Hatton 9, Lexington 2: Jalen Heaps drove in three runs to lead Hatton. Rowan Armstrong finished with two RBIs.

Tanner 17, Cherokee 1: Michael Dempsey homered and finished six RBIs for the Rattlers. Takorey Green added four RBIs. Saban Long got the win on the mound, allowing a hit and a run with eight strikeouts.

Addison 9, Athens Bible 0: Jake Banta and Gavin Butler each had a hit for Athens Bible.

Golf

The Priceville boys won the Winston County Invitational upper division on Monday, shooting a 321 as a team. Drei Netherton was the top medalist with a score of 74 and Collier Beverly was all-tournament with a score of 77.
