Baylor coach Scott Drew has found success in Waco over the past 23 years. When he initially signed on to take over the program, there were a few key things to address. Now with nearly 500 wins, his name has been linked to job openings at Kentucky, Louisville and now North Carolina.

After winning a national championship in 2021, Drew reportedly signed a 10-year contract extension. He also made $5.4 million this season and is expected to be at that level over the duration of his deal. This puts him eighth in the nation for the highest-paid coaches, according to USA TODAY Sports

In terms of the Big 12, Kansas' Bill Self is at the top with $8.8 million per year. Arizona's Tommy Lloyd recently picked up an extension, putting him among the top three highest-paid coaches. The Wildcats' coach was right below Drew at $5.2 million per year and now moves up.

Scott Drew buyout terms

Multiple sources reported a $4.5 million figure during the 2024 coaching cycle for Drew. While nothing has officially been released by Baylor, the total is on par with the market. Other jobs were linked to him, but there has been nothing but smoke thus far.

In terms of nationally, Drew has a middle-of-the-pack buyout, which could be a major selling point for a traditional powerhouse school. The figure is currently 50th among all college coaches and very affordable for any school looking to poach Drew.

Where does this leave Drew's future?

For now, Drew has gotten comfortable in Waco and might need a change of scenery. This would be the perfect time to test the waters and see what his value would be. While there aren't many job openings, if the right one came along and increased his pay in the ACC or SEC, this would be a win. Not many coaches have been as successful as Drew over the past two decades.
