The New England Patriots had just 35 sacks last season, ranking near the bottom of the league in the regular season. Even though the team made it to the Super Bowl, the pass rush needs to be improved.

Not only was the pass rush not great last season, but it lost one of its biggest contributors in K'Lavon Chaisson. The Patriots did sign Dre'Mont Jones, but he essentially replaces Chaisson. So why have the Patriots not done more to address the lackluster group? Well, there could be a few reasons.
The first reason is the most likely, and that is that they may be planning on adding an elite pass rusher through the draft. This draft is deep with pass rushers, and the Patriots may think they can add a difference maker with the 31st overall selection.
Another reason the Patriots are waiting could be the fact that they are waiting for some of the available free agents to be willing to sign for less. Joey Bosa, Cameron Jordan, Von Miller and Jadeveon Clowney are all still available, but the Patriots may only want to sign them on a cheap, short-term deal. The odds of that increase the longer free agency drags on.
The Patriots could also be waiting out a trade. Whether the Patriots want to trade for a pass rusher or A.J. Brown, who they have been linked to in rumors, they would not be able to spend too much in free agency because of how a trade would impact their cap space. Perhaps their patience is indicative of the fact that they do not want to spend until they know they won't be taking on a massive salary through trade.
