Report: Bayern Munich all in on Jonas Urbig

Bayern Munich may have sent every signal it could to show faith in deputy keeper Jonas Urbig as Manuel Neuer’s eventual successor, but there has always been an element of doubt among the fan base. Could the Bavarians really turn the keys over to the young and unproven Urbig? After all, there will be veteran options on the market to chase — and even still-on-the-books Alexander Nübel, currently on his fifth straight season on loan away from the club.
But no, the Bavarians are all in — even if Neuer hangs ‘em up after this season, according to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Flak and Heiko Niedderer. As captured by @iMiaSanMia:

Should Manuel Neuer decide to retire at the end of the season, Bayern have no plans to sign a competitor for Jonas Urbig for the #1 spot. The clear tendency is to rely on Urbig as Neuer’s successor and get a new #2, depending on what happens with Peretz and Nübel [@cfbayern, @itstheicebird]
This makes a lot of sense, and not just in the wallet department. Signing a new No. 1 would cost — and then where would Urbig go? If it’s the start of a loan journey, then Bayern would need a new No. 2 as well.
Let’s hope the Bavarians’ faith in Urbig is well-placed. So far, it looks promising.
