It’s alleged the accused used online dating apps to approach victims in Canada and the United States by using an alias of Hronek Radko with an unknown person’s face as his profile picture on fraudulent identification.
It’s further alleged the accused purported to be a successful GTA businessman operating Ocean Global Auto Ltd. or Ocean Auto and after establishing an online relationship, persuaded victims to loan large sums of money to assist with the business.
Accused allegedly ceased talking to victims after money sent
It’s further alleged once money was sent, the accused ceased communication with the victims and used the funds for personal gain.
Charles Azi, 36, of Mississauga, has been charged with fraud exceeding $5000 and both he and Patricia Azi, 42 of Mississauga, have been charged with possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5000.
The police caution to never send money to someone you have not met and verified in person and to be skeptical of any financial request tied to a new online relationship.
They also say to talk to a trusted friend or family member before sending money and if something feels rushed or secretive, slow down and verify.
