That would be a huge moment for Steve Clarke’s side and the Tartan Army.

And the bar owners of the cities which will host Scotland’s games had better prepare early if it is confirmed.

Scotland supporters have already made a major impact in Boston during the first two rounds of the World Cup group stage.

Fox News reported that bars in the city have been running out of beer as Scottish fans drink them dry during the tournament.

That is hardly surprising given the scale of the travelling support. Scotland have played two group matches in Foxborough, near to Boston, bringing thousands of fans into the capital.

One bar owner reportedly had to order “emergency deliveries” after selling more than 4,000 pints and emptying 90 kegs.

That was said to be four times the amount usually consumed across a four-day holiday period such as the Fourth of July.

It says plenty about the mood around Scotland. Their fans have waited a long time for moments like this, and Boston has felt the full force of that excitement.

Stadium beer prices may push fans towards Boston bars

The drinking outside stadiums may also reflect what supporters are facing inside venues.

At Scotland’s World Cup opener in Boston, reported concession prices showed a 16-ounce American beer at $16.

Craft or imported beer was listed at around $20, while a 20-ounce draft option was around $19.

Even water was not cheap, with prices around $7. For travelling fans, those costs quickly become a major part of matchday spending.
