Spain vs Cape Verde World Cup prediction: Why the over on Spain's team total looks like the play

· Fox News

We've had some World Cup luck so far, so we have to keep pushing our luck, right? Right. We have gone 2-1 with a win in the USA, a loss on the over in the Brazil game, and a really good win in the Netherlands and Japan tying, getting us a +240 win. Let's try to grab one here with Spain and Cape Verde.

Even a casual observer would expect Spain to be the better team in this game. You could probably even assume that Spain should make a deep run in the World Cup overall. What is a little unique about this team is that despite the most popular team in the country being either Barcelona or Real Madrid, they don't have a single Real Madrid player on the roster. There is almost no question that Spain should make it out of the group.

The only challenge they have in this group is against Uruguay. The discussion around Spain now is that they will be more intense and aggressive on offense. Over the past four games since March, they haven't looked all that impressive. They had two wins and two draws, scoring three goals in both wins.

Like so many of these teams, I probably can't tell you where Cape Verde is on a map. However, unlike bigger countries (I'm looking at you, Italy) Cape Verde qualified to play in these games. This is the first-ever time that the team qualified for the World Cup. En route to getting here, they didn't concede a goal at home, but will no longer have that advantage.

If they plan to have any chance against the Spanish team, they will need to rely on their strong defense. They really don't have the offensive firepower to keep up with Spain, so the question is if they can find another way to win. I suppose a tie is what they are going to shoot for here, or capitalize on a mistake from their opponent. Those are the only ways I can see Cape Verde surprising anyone.

This is one of those games where I think we know the outcome. Spain should absolutely win this game, but the question is by how much? The total is 3.5 and the spread is Spain -2.5 goals.

I think the spread makes a bit of sense at -2.5, but I'm thinking that we should see Spain get at least three goals here. Their team total can be a bit pricey, but I'll take a shot on over 3.5 goals for them alone. Playing it for 3.5 total between both teams is -105, it makes more sense, since I think most of the scoring will be done by Spain, we take their team total over.
