Texas (45-14) was a lopsided loser as well on Saturday, dropping a 7-1 opener to Georgia, setting up loser's bracket elimination game between the Crimson Tide and Longhorns on Monday at 2 p.m. CT.
Texas defeated UC Santa Barbara 6-2 to clinch the NCAA Austin Regional, then swept Oregon in a best-of-three series, 11-3 and 6-5, to take its Super Regional. Carson Tinney, who've combined for 57 home runs and each of whom carry an OPS of over 1.000. Its closer on the mound is Sam Cozart (6-0, nine saves), who has an impressive 1.65 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 49 innings.
There's a heavy SEC flavor to the CWS this year, as Alabama is one of five teams in the league to reach the eight-team field, joined by the Longhorns, Bulldogs, Sooners, and Ole Miss.
The Crimson Tide is participating in its first College World Series since 1999. In coach Rob Vaughn's third season, UA hosted and won NCAA Regional and Super Regional tournaments, compiling a 5-0 record across both, to qualify for the CWS.
