Const. Marc Pinizzotto saluted during procession to Thornhill funeral home

First responders lined the streets on Sunday afternoon outside the Centre of Forensic Sciences in North York to pay their respects to slain Toronto Police Const. Marc Pinizzotto , who was killed just blocks away from there last week while serving a search warrant.

Cops and other first responders saluted the vehicles escorting the body of the late Emergency Task Force officer as they made the trip to deliver Pinizzotto’s body to the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home in Thornhill ahead of a service that is expected to take place on Thursday, according to the Toronto Sun ’s Joe Warmington.

Police have yet to release details of the funeral, but are expected to do so in the coming days.

Pinizzotto’s death came on the same week that OPP Const. Tarun Bali, a Brampton native who was stationed in northern Ontario, was struck and killed during an attempted traffic stop in Hearst, Ont.

A few weeks earlier, OPP Sgt. Brandon Malcolm was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Cobourg.

‘Stand together in solemn respect’

“Today, we stand together in solemn respect and support of the Pinizzotto family and all our colleagues at the Toronto Police service,” an OPP officer said as they hosted a livestream of the procession on social media.

“Unfortunately, we understand all too well what our colleagues at Toronto Police service are going through.”

Pinizzotto, 43, died Thursday following an early morning incident at an apartment building in the Black Creek-Trethewey Drs. area of North York, where officers were executing a search warrant in connection with shootings that targeted the U.S. Consulate and local synagogues.

The 18-year veteran officer, a father of two children, was shot during an interaction between officers and five individuals at the building and was later pronounced dead at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Nicholas Bennett, 19, who is accused of first-degree murder and being the lead shooter, was shot six times by another ETF officer during the exchange and was in critical condition at Sunnybrook as of Saturday.

Police have since charged another teen and are searching for a third , allegedly in connection with the synagogue and consulate shooting cases.

Search for 3rd suspect continues

Sheldon Tracey-Stewart, 18, who was out on bail at the time on unrelated charges, was slapped with 11 offences on Thursday including discharging a restricted or prohibited firearm at a place and attacking a premises of internationally protected persons.

Zara Jabbi, 19, is also wanted in connection with the synagogue and consulate shooting cases.

Police in the meantime are setting up books of condolence for the Pinizzotto family as well as friends and colleagues.

Two of the books are already available at 23 and 33 divisions (5230 Finch Ave. W. and 50 Upjohn Rd. respectively) between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. until June 26. A third book will be available starting Monday until June 26 on weekdays only from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Toronto Police headquarters on College St.
