10 from Section 4 capture titles at NYS track & field championships

Ten athletes from Section 4 captured titles at the New York State outdoor track & field championships Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 at Webster Schroeder High School in the Rochester area.
Corning-Painted Post senior Cella McLaughlin led the way among Section 4 girls with triumphs in two events, giving her a combined seven state titles over the last two school years in indoor and outdoor track & field.

Candor senior Logan Aman also won titles in two events, including a sweep of the Class C and Federation finals in the 100-meter dash.
Other Section 4 champions were Binghamton's Milo Wilson, Maine-Endwell's Wyatt Richardson, Lansing's Ava Kobylarz, Oneonta's Cassidy Howard and Darren Rose, Tioga Central's Gavin Albrecht, and Chenango Valley's Delaney Walters and Mack Patterson.
Competition was suspended twice Sunday because of rain. As of late Sunday afternoon, a few events had not been completed.
McLaughlin state champ in long jump, hurdles
On Saturday, McLaughlin won the Class A championship in the long jump with a top effort of 19 feet, 11.25 inches. That surpassed her own Section 4 record of 19 feet, 8.75 inches coming into the meet and ranked third overall among the three classes Saturday.
McLaughlin's winning effort came on her fifth jump. The University of Pittsburgh commit topped 19 feet on all six attempts, including a second-best effort of 19 feet, 9.75 inches. Her top jump of this season entering the meet was 18 feet, 10.75 inches.
In Sunday's competition, McLaughlin won the Class A title in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.09 seconds. Aaliyah McDonald of Cicero-North Syracuse was runner-up in 14.29.
Later in the day, McLaughlin finished second in the Federation 100 hurdles race with a time of 13.76 seconds. Taylor Foster of Class C's Brearley School won in a meet-record 13.56 as rain fell shortly before competition was halted.
As a junior, McLaughlin won the indoor public schools state title in the 55 hurdles, then captured NYSPHSAA and Federation outdoor titles in the 100 hurdles. In March, she won Federation and public schools indoor titles in the 55 hurdles.
Candor's Aman doubled up in sprints
Aman, the Section 4 record-holder with a time of 10.47 seconds, completed an undefeated spring by capturing both the Class C and Federation finals of the 100 dash Sunday.
His winning time in the Class C finals was 10.55 seconds. Aman came back with a winning sprint of 10.56 seconds in the Federation race.
Aman won the Class C title in the 200 in 21.37 and narrowly missed a sweep there as well, placing second in the Federation final in 21.08 seconds. Warwick Valley's Luke Beattie won in 21.07.
Binghamton's Wilson No. 1 in high jump
Wilson, a senior at Binghamton High, topped the overall field for the Federation title in addition to winning the Class A championship in the boys high jump.
He cleared 6 feet, 10 inches on his first attempt at the height Sunday. Albany CBA's Maxwell Kimball and Pittsford Sutherland's Beckham Taylor both cleared 6 feet, 8 inches.
Wilson made three unsuccessful attempts at 7 feet, 1 inch. The Rutgers commit topped the Section 4 record earlier this season with a jump of 6 feet, 11 inches. He later broke his own mark with a jump of 7 feet.
M-E's Richardson takes hurdles title
Richardson, a Maine-Endwell junior, posted a time of 54.85 seconds to capture the Class B title in the 400 hurdles Saturday. Runner-up was Dominick Rios of Valley Stream North in 54.92.
Lansing's Kobylarz a pole vault champion
Kobylarz, a Lansing sophomore, posted a top effort of 12 feet, 3 inches to capture the Class C championship in the girls pole vault. She finished third overall. Anderson Farina of Cornwall led the field at 12 feet, 9 inches.
Oneonta's Howard, Rose win titles
The girls Class C 100-meter dash went to Oneonta junior Cassidy Howard, who finished in 12.15 seconds. Nia Nelson of Saint Ann's School was second in 12.20, followed by Tioga Central's Vida Rossi in 12.34.
Howard (Oneonta) added a runner-up Class C finish in the 200 with a time of 24.91.
Rose brought home to Oneonta the Class C title in the triple jump with his top effort of 48 feet, 3 inches.
Albrecht repeated as Class C state champ
Albrecht, a senior at Tioga Central, won the Class C boys pole vault title for the second year in a row. His top height of 15 feet was good for third overall. Alex Molter of Connetquot took first at 15 feet, 3 inches.
Walters took championship in high jump
Walters' height of 5 feet, 6 inches gave the Chenango Valley senior the Class C state championship in the girls high jump. She tied for third overall.
Patterson, Morrissey led way in Class C discus
Patterson and Sidney's Michael Morrissey finished 1-2 in the Class C discus competition. Patterson, a CV junior, had a top toss of 166 feet, 2 inches. Morrissey's best effort was 158 feet, 1 inch.
In the shot put, 2025 Class B state champ Patterson finished second in Class C with an effort of 56 feet, 10.25 inches. Morrissey was third at 55 feet, 7.75 inches.
