Travis Kelce Has 2 Words for Former Chiefs Teammate

· Yahoo Sports

Travis Kelce will return for his 14th NFL season. He signed a one-year, $12 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in March, aiming to help the team bounce back after a disappointing 6-11 season. The franchise retooled this offseason with some key veteran signings and rookie additions via the draft. It also strengthened its coaching staff.

One of the players who will not play for Kansas City next season is JuJu Smith-Schuster. The wide receiver appeared in 17 games in 2025, including 12 starts. He amassed 33 receptions for 345 yards and one touchdown. Smith-Schuster also has 481 career catches for 5,624 yards and 33 scores. However, the Chiefs decided to move on from him and did not offer him a new contract.

He agreed to a one-year deal in March 2025. Smith-Schuster began the second year of his second stint with the franchise after suiting up for the Andy Reid-led squad in 2022.

Smith-Schuster signed with the New York Giants in free agency on a one-year, $1.3 million deal.

Smith-Schuster provides the Giants with more depth at wide receiver following the signings of Odell Beckham Jr. and Braxton Berrios. The wideout room is loaded with a mix of veterans and young guns, including Malik Nabers, who sustained a torn ACL on Sept. 28.

However, Smith-Schuster’s experience and leadership could push him up the depth chart. He helped Kansas City win the Super Bowl in 2023 and has a Pro Bowl selection under his belt.

Meanwhile, Kelce is expected to remain one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets. The quarterback is recovering from the ACL injury he suffered in December, but could return in Week 1. The veteran duo will aim to take the Chiefs back to the postseason and compete for another Super Bowl.
