Philadelphia Flyers
Since our last PhHN Daily, we’ve got a couple of stories to go back over.
Philly Hockey Now: First, our most recent mock draft, where we look into the Flyers’ possibilities in the first and second rounds of the NHL draft.
Then, of course, the swirling John Carlson rumors. Is the veteran defenseman a fit in Philly? We take a look at the rumors connecting Carlson to the Flyers, how it would fill a void, but also create a problem.
A Dan Vladar extension certainly seems likely to be on the table this summer. Now, reports indicate that a deal may already be done, and it’s a long one. We break down what that extension could look like for Vladar and the Flyers.
And finally, the bomb. Dylan Larkin wants out of Detroit. That puts a new 1C on the board for the Flyers to try to acquire. We break down the fit, what it could cost, and what the Flyers have to get a deal done for Larkin.
NHL Trade Rumors & News
Montreal Hockey Now: Let’s start with the big one. Matthew Knies was almost a Hab? Details revealed that the Montreal Canadiens nearly acquired Maple Leafs’ rising star Matthew Knies at the trade deadline, but the trade was submitted AFTER the deadline. Yikes.
NHLtraderumors.me: It seems like the Canadiens might have been busy at the deadline, looking for a big swing. Reports indicate that the Habs tried to land Alexis Lafreniere from the New York Rangers as well.
Could they revisit these scenarios this summer?
New Jersey Hockey Now: Now that those details have been released, teams know what it will take to land Knies from the Leafs. James Nichols over at New Jersey Hockey Now writes that the Devils could crush the Canadiens’ offer and should pursue Knies.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Sticking with trade talk, Dylan Larkin remains all the craze. Like the Flyers, the Penguins have an interesting cabinet of assets to deal for the Red Wings’ top center. Dan Kingerski breaks down some similar trades and analyzes the Penguins’ ability to take the swing.
TSN: Is Gavin McKenna to the Leafs a lock? Most likely, but the Leafs did say there are four players that could go at the top. The projected top-pick met with John Chayka and the Maple Leafs brass at the NHL Draft combine. McKenna then talked about the possibility of going No. 1.
ESPN: What. A. Game. Mitch Marner recorded the fastest hat-trick in Stanley Cup history. The Hurricanes erased a 4-0 deficit, including 3 goals in 39 seconds in clutch time. Then, of course, the Shea Theodore game-winner. Knights go up 2-1 in the series after the Game 3 thriller in Vegas.
