GALXBOY CRITICISED OVER FLAG
On the X platform, South African fashion label Galxboy trended over an item featuring the South African flag – upside down!
The brand’s RSA Racer jacket features the flag print in the wrong position.
X user @visse_ss posted images of the item, tweeting: “This is very disrespectful, GALXBOY. You’re displaying the South African flag incorrectly. When vertical, the red must be on the LEFT of the spectator, with the black ‘V’ at the TOP.
“Our flag is not a fashion prop. It’s a national symbol of pride and sacrifice”
The X user appealed to the fashion brand to have the imagery on the item corrected.

You’re displaying the South African flag incorrectly.
When vertical, the red must be on the LEFT of the spectator, with the black “V” at the TOP.
Your version has the flag sideways/wrong. Our flag is not a fashion prop ..; it’s a national… pic.twitter.com/40tcfR2Y2d
Other X users agreed with the firm stance…
Dear @GALXBOY

We are all experiencing the worst governance since the dawn of our democracy. However, disrespecting our National flag will not fix; it will only damage your brand's reputation. Abiding by these protocols is mandatory, not a choice. pic.twitter.com/aDZHIi85xz
Without naming GALXBOY, ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu responded to the controversy, tweeting: “In light of the ongoing conversation, let’s show a little respect & fly the South African flag correctly. Patriotism is great, but the flag does in fact have a right way up”

‘IT’S MORE ABOUT DESIGN’
Amid the backlash, a screenshot of a DM between GALXBOY and a concerned member of the public went viral.
When the individual revealed that the flag had been incorrectly displayed on the item, the account responded: “It’s not a flag, my sister, it’s a shirt with South African colours. It’s more about design than government”

It wouldn’t be the first time GALXBOY has courted controversy over an item supposedly resembling a flag.
Last year, the brand came under fire over its release of a luxury towel that favoured the Israeli flag’s colours and design.
GALXBOY is catching heat on X after unveiling its new “Day Club 2025” towel design. 🧵
