Detroit Red Wings forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygard helped Norway pull off a staggering 3-2 overtime win to beat Canada and secure the bronze medal at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship on Sunday in Zurich, Switzerland.
It was Norway's best-ever finish at the worlds and handed the Canadians another stunning defeat at the tournament.

Brandsegg-Nygard, who joined the team midway through the tournament, had an assist with three shots in 20:45 of ice time.
In five games, he had three goals and three assists for six points with a plus-4 rating and 14 shots.
Also Sunday, Red Wings forward Emmitt Finnie was scoreless and minus-1 in 5:51 of ice time for Canada.
Ex-Spartan Porter Martone, who replaced Dylan Cozens on the top line with Macklin Celebrini and Sidney Crosby, was scoreless and even in 8:55 of ice time.
The Canadians came into the bronze-medal game hoping to secure their first podium finish since 2023, but they fell behind 2-0 and needed two late goals from Robert Thomas, the second coming with eight seconds left, just to force overtime.
The Norwegians, who lost, 6-0, in their semifinal against host nation Switzerland on Saturday, got the winning goal from Noah Steen 3:32 into the overtime period.
The victory prompted a congratulatory message from Norway prime minister Jonas Gahr Store on social media, who wrote. "An incredible and historic day – with a winning goal in sudden death… We celebrate, (this is) a new era for Norwegian ice hockey."
Switzerland was scheduled to Finland in the late game on Sunday.
