Aidan Hutchinson welcomes new Michigan teammates
· Yahoo Sports
Previously, the hometown NFL team, the Detroit Lions, didn't have a ton of local talent on the roster. For some time, it had former Michigan football offensive lineman Graham Glasgow, but when he left for the Denver Broncos, there weren't many Wolverines playing in nearby Detroit. But then, in 2022, the Lions drafted defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, and not long after, they brought Glasgow back.

Glasgow has since been released, but the Lions infused the team with more Michigan talent in this most recent NFL draft.
Detroit drafted edge rusher Derrick Moore in the second round and linebacker Jimmy Rolder in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL draft, and it's something that drew the eye of Hutchinson, an outspoken former Wolverine. Speaking with reporters on Friday, Hutchinson expressed glee at the Lions picking up former Michigan players, noting that it's becoming something of a trend.
"I tell you what -- Michigan is starting to become the pathway to the Lions, I guess," Hutchinson said. "Hopefully not though. Before this year, it was like not a single Wolverine was drafted besides me, but yeah."

Says they got some work in together at Schembechler before OTA's: pic.twitter.com/Y4Fo0X8Lgc
The Lions will pair Hutchinson and Moore together as bookends on the defensive line, and though they missed each other in Ann Arbor by just one year (Moore joined the Wolverines in 2022), the duo doesn't really know each other, Hutchinson says.
"I never really met him before," Hutchinson said. "And before he came to OTAs, we got some work in at Schembechler, actually, so I went back there with him. And it was fun just talking, talking past, seeing his mentality and my mentality and how they differ, you know, how they may complement each other and stuff."
