Justin Thomas says he's never heard of this 'unwritten rule' involving course records and won't be following it

Justin Thomas is one of the best in the world when it comes to going really low on the golf course, including posting one of the 15 sub-60 rounds in PGA Tour history at the 2017 Sony Open. And not even an "unwritten rule" will keep him from doing that.

Confused? Let's explain. On Thursday, Pro Shop president Chad Mumm told a story about a tour pro walking off the golf course when he had a chance to break the course record. According to Mumm, that practice is one of his "favorite 'unwritten' rules of tour players.'"

And we've heard similar stories. A few years back, Len Mattiace hopped on The Loop podcast to confirm a story that he intentionally three-putted from close range on the final hole during a round to avoid breaking the course record at Pawtucket CC out of respect for a legendary club pro who held it. Pretty cool gesture.

But it seems Thomas hasn't heard of this rule. And, apparently, he's not having any of it.

"Never heard of that one... promise you won't find me tanking it anywhere," he replied.

We see JT's side of this as well, but the irony here is that his dad, Mike, is a longtime club pro himself.

Anyway, don't expect the 16-time PGA Tour winner to go easy on any courses—or any course records.
