The Ohio high school boys volleyball season has reached state tournament play, with Thomas Worthington and Olentangy Berlin advancing in Division I and St. Charles moving on in Division II.
Eleven area players were featured in a poll to determine the central Ohio boys volleyball regular-season player of the year. All of the votes are in, and the winner is Dublin Jerome’s Roshon Fuller.

The 6-foot-4 senior opposite-side hitter helped lead the second-seeded Celtics (22-4) to the Division I, Region 3 final. Jerome lost to top-seeded Thomas 33-31, 25-14, 25-19 on May 22 at Grove City.
Fuller closed the regular season with 233 kills, 91 digs, 63 blocks and 14 aces.
Jerome coach Phil Cugino said Fuller’s performance was part of a team-wide effort.
“We’re not real big on awards,” Cugino said. “We know what our guys can do. We’ve always been that way. Anything outside of our gym, outside of our opinions, it’s nice. It’s nice to get medals and trophies, but it’s not something we thrive on. We’re really just concerned with the way we feel about each other. There’s a lot of love here.”
Fuller received 75.18% of the vote, finishing well ahead of New Albany senior Michael Botkin (12.5%).
They were followed by St. Charles’ Jack Ishmael (2.79%), Thomas’ Alex Ondo (2.77%) and Drew Barnes (2.19%), Jerome’s Jahan Rasekhy (1.81%), DeSales’ Dominic Trolli (0.93%), Olentangy Liberty’s Max Harris (0.71%), St. Charles’ Charlie Koesters (0.58%), Westerville South’s RaShaun Benham (0.41%) and Hilliard Darby’s Alex Eldridge (0.12%).
All of these players are candidates to make our All-Metro boys volleyball team, which will be honored as part of the Central Ohio High School Sports Awards on June 22 at Upper Arlington High School.
