This week’s candidates:
CJ Aubuchon, Southside Christian: Aubuchon hit two home runs in the Class 3A Upper State baseball championship game as Southside beat Chapman, 12-4. He was 3-for-3 with a walk and six RBIs.
Palmer Hornick, Dorman: Hornick in a two-game sweep of Spartanburg in the 5A Division 1 Upper State championship series was a combined 5-for-5 with a home run and three doubles and a stolen base.
Brandon Jaramillo, Eastside: The Eagles’ goalkeeper made a game-winning save in the penalty kicks portion after four overtimes as Eastside beat Chapin, 1-1, for the 5A Division 2 soccer state championship.
Erik Martinez, Southside: Martinez scored the first two goals as Southside won its first state championship, 3-0, against Gray Collegiate in Class 4A.
Will Mayfield, T.L. Hanna: Mayfield pitched six innings of shutout relief as T.L. Hanna came back from a 3-0 deficit and beat Indian Land, 9-3, in the Class 5A Division 1 Upper State baseball championship.
Brody Pike, Powdersville: Pike scored five goals as Powdersville beat Oceanside Collegiate, 6-1, for its second straight SCHSL Class 3A soccer state championship. He had all five with 32 minutes left.
