Fritz is having a difficult year
A knee injury has posed serious problems for the 28-year-old Californian. Fritz was off the ATP Tour for two months, from the Miami Open in mid March until last week’s Geneva Open, recuperating from it.
He played a grand total of one singles and one doubles clay court match in preparation for the French Open.

No points to defend at Roland Garros
Fritz was a Wimbledon semifinalst in 2025. The grass season is short, lasting just a month.
He needs to focus his efforts on preparing for the grass, and losing the first round of the French Open gives him a two week jump on it.
Fritz is essentially joining the ranks of Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti, Arthur Fils, Holger Rune, and Jack Draper who curtailed or skipped the clay season this year.
Unfortunately, we did not get a good dose of “Claylor” this year. Here’s hoping that happens in 2027.
