TEXARKANA, TX  (KTAL/KMSS) – On Tuesday, Pleasant Grove added two members to its already big class of 16 students committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at the college level.

Boston Degroot will be staying locally, continuing to play soccer at Texas A&M Texarkana while he works on his degree in electrical engineering, joining a few other Texarkana and East Texas locals on the roster.

“I chose A&M Texarkana because its close to home, a really fast growing campus with a bunch of people I already know, those are my main reasons,” Degroot said. “I’m most excited to get in touch with the team. Practices are going to be fun, I’m excited to hang out with all of them and get to know them over the summer.”

Jayla Rowden, a volleyball, basketball, softball, and track standout for the Lady Hawks the past two seasons will be continuing her softball career at Texas Tech.

“I always wanted to be coached by [Gerry Glasgow]. He’s coached at Louisiana, he’s coached everywhere. Just knowing how good of a coach he was I reached out and then I went on an official visit and after that that’s when I made my decision,” Rowden said.

Texas Tech is getting not one, but two Rowdens, with Jayla joining former New Boston running back, Ashton Rowden, in Lubbock.

“It’s amazing. I’d love to see my brother play and be there with him, just going with my brother, he’s like my twin, so its amazing,” Jayla said. “Just knowing he’s going to be there I knew it was the place to be.”
