Makhaula to call it quits if Orlando Pirates win the league?

Midfield veteran Makhehlene Makhaula has hinted that he could hang up his boots if Pirates win the league in 2025-26. The Sea Robbers are on the brink of doing just that after Sundowns lost 3-2 at TS Galaxy on Wednesday. Makhehlene Makhaula has admitted that lifting the Betway Premiership crown could be a perfect swansong. The former AmaZulu man will be 37 in November and has made 16 league appearances this term. Some fans feel as though he’s still got at least another season in him.

“I think the young guys always want to challenge me each and every time, even during training. When I try to take things easy, they always come hard at me,” Makhaula said.

“Only God knows. I’m always praying because my wish is the league. We will see, maybe this season it can happen,” he said.

“It would be a dream come true. When you go to other teams, they don’t even try to fight for the league, but with big teams, you must always compete for trophies. Big teams are always fighting for something,” the Pirates midfielder added.

Makhaula’s Pirates dreams could soon come true

After Sundowns fell to a 3-2 defeat at TS Galaxy on Wednesday, Orlando Pirates can smell their first Betway Premiership title in 14 years. Four more points from their remaining fixtures would guarantee a first league crown since 2012. Even three points might be enough, provided Pirates don’t lose by more than seven goals in the other fixture. They currently sit on a goal difference of +44, while Sundowns’ is +36. The Buccaneers won’t be entertaining the idea of a heavy defeat; their three league losses this term have all come by a single goal.
