Rock Valley College outfielder Nyah Allen ignites the Golden Eagles at the plate and in the field

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — One of the top athletes at Rock Valley College is softball player Nyah Allen. She is one of the most dynamic players in RVC softball history, and that’s saying a lot considering all the talent that has come through that program.

Her skills were on full display last Saturday in RVC’s regional tournament win against Kankakee. She singled, doubled and triple, and she made a spectacular diving catch in right field.

Her career batting average over two seasons at RVC is .492. She has hit 16 home runs. She also holds the school record for most runs scored in a season.

Allen bats leadoff for the Golden Eagles, and she told me that’s exactly where she wants to be.

“I love it! If you saw me in the fall I was begging (Coach Darin) Monroe to let me leadoff. It’s great to have earned the spot and to be able to feel comfortable in that position and lead my team because the leadoff (hitter), it essentially starts rallies for the team and sets the tone, so I love doing that for the team. I love being there for my team!”

Allen is a sophomore. She went to Whitney Young High School in Chicago. She and her RVC teammates are getting ready for more postseason action. This weekend they’ll play in the NJCAA D2 Region IV Final Four in Moline.

Allen has committed to D1 UIC for next year.
