Izan Guevara’s MotoGP move could now be ‘blocked’ by Senna Agius joining Pramac in 2027

Gavin Emmett has reported that Pramac are now being encouraged to look at Senna Agius over Izan Guevara as a way to guarantee an Australian presence in the MotoGP field for 2027.
Both Agius and Guevara, who are already establishing themselves as key contenders in the 2026 Moto2 season, have hit form at just the right time. With MotoGP teams looking to finalise their line-ups early for the new year, grabbing a standout from Moto2 is becoming increasingly appealing ahead of the switch to 850cc bikes.

After four rounds, Agius sits second in the standings with back-to-back wins in America and Spain, while Guevara is third after podium finishes in Thailand (P2) and Texas (P3). Gonzalez currently leads by 9.5 points over Agius and 14.5 over Guevara.
However, there are conflicting reports about which of these two riders might be stepping up from Moto2 next season, and which teams they might be joining. While Pramac seem like a natural fit for Guevara given his current ties to their Moto2 outfit.
Pramac ‘being pushed’ to sign Senna Agius over Izan Guevara

While there was talk of both Agius and Guevara joining Pramac, that scenario now appears less likely.
Yamaha are bringing in Ai Ogura for their factory squad in 2027, with Toprak Razgatlioglu expected to stay at Pramac. With only one spot likely available, Emmett has heard that there’s growing support behind the scenes for Agius to get the nod over Guevara.
Speaking on Gas It Out, Emmett said: “I reckon there’s people pushing behind the scenes for it already. They know we’ve got a race in Adelaide coming up next year.”
“We need an Aussie, and if Jack [Miller]’s not going to get a contract, which we don’t know whether there’s any potential there,” he continued. “But I had heard rumours that Guevara’s move to Pramac was perhaps not being blocked but asking for that to be considered.”
“Because that was a possibility that they were just going to slot Guevara up there,” he added. “And I know people might feel for Izan Guevara career-wise, but I think in terms of deserving it, Senna’s back-to-back race wins just show that he deserves to be in the conversation.”
The Australian Grand Prix is shifting from Phillip Island to Adelaide next year, where a new street circuit will be built. At present, Jack Miller is the only Australian on the MotoGP grid – although his contract with Yamaha is also up at the end of this season.
If Miller were to lose his seat and not find another home on the grid, Camden native Agius could step into his role as Australia’s sole representative in MotoGP. There are even suggestions Miller is worried about Agius taking over as Australia’s only rider next season.
Even if Guevara ends up alongside Razgatlioglu at Pramac in 2027, Agius might still find his way into MotoGP. There are also whispers linking him with KTM as a potential partner for Alex Marquez in their factory team. Marquez is widely expected to join KTM as Pedro Acosta’s replacement.
Agius could also end up joining Pramac while Guevara finds another route into MotoGP next season – especially since Yamaha have signed Ogura away from Trackhouse Racing Americas TV presenter Alex Rins haven’t confirmed anyone yet.
Neil Hodgson says Senna Agius would be ‘screwed’ if he misses out on a 2027 MotoGP seat
If Agius doesn’t secure a spot on the 2027 MotoGP grid, Neil Hodgson believes the 20-year-old could be left in a tough position. The former world champion thinks the timing of contracts means Agius might have to wait until 2029 for another chance.
Most teams hand out two-year deals to avoid being caught out of sync with rider availability. And while Hodgson was impressed by Agius’s recent form, he knows there are no guarantees.
“Senna was the star,” Hodgson said. “I mean, he’d won in America, but America is a quirky track. And it’s one of those whenever you come to Jerez, that is the reference track.”
“Everybody knows it. Everyone tests there. Everyone’s done a bazillion laps. Everyone’s got a good set-up because it is what it is. It’s Jerez. You know every little ripple on that track.”
“And watching Senna Agius on Friday in that second practice, oh my god, it’s some of the, let’s say, highest skill level I’ve seen on a Moto2 bike in a long time.”
“The way he was drifting it through the fast corners consistently, but also, it was the fact that the bike was sliding, it wasn’t snapping at all.”
“He’s got the most delicate throttle control to have the bike moving, turning allowing him to finish the corners off and with no hesitations where he wasn’t yo-yoing overworking suspension – skill so good to watch.”
