Christian Gonzalez makes strong statement on Mike Vrabel amid fallout

Star cornerback Christian Gonzalez is standing firmly behind New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel amid the controversy involving Dianna Russini, a former reporter at The Athletic.

Russini resigned from her position after photos leaked of her with Vrabel at a luxury resort in Arizona. Despite both being married, the two were seemingly caught holding hands and embracing.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that Vrabel isn't facing punishment. He chalked the entire ordeal up as a "personal matter" and said he'd rather leave it at that. Vrabel revealed that he had a conversation with the team, but he did not divulge any further details.

When asked about the situation, Gonzalez strongly backed his head coach.

“We ain’t gon’ speak on what we talked about inside the building," said Gonzalez. "But I mean, that’s my coach. That’s who I go out there and play for. He’s proven to what he can do as a coach. That’s my guy, and I ride behind Vrabes any time of the day.”

The Patriots are looking to turn the page to preparing for the 2026 season.

They are coming off another strong draft class, following a successful free agency period. An argument could be made that the team is significantly better than the one that advanced to Super Bowl LX last season, at least on paper.

With the A.J. Brown trade expected to come on or after June 1, the Patriots could be setting themselves up for another incredible regular season run.
