A sweep will not be how this series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets will be described. Right after the tip, Coach Ime Udoka put his players into positions to win Game 4. Despite not having Kevin Durant, a lot of players like Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, Reed Sheppard, and Tari Eason turned up. One of them even achieved a feat only Hakeem Olajuwon ever reached.
Rockets save NBA Playoffs campaign from Lakers sweep
Coach Ime Udoka had schemed the Rockets properly and won Game 4 handsomely. Without Kevin Durant, they still managed to score 25 points or more in every single quarter. This prevented any sort of scoring surge from the Lakers as the game ended in a 115-96 blowout.
Every single one of the Rockets starters contributed more than 15+ points to save their season from a sweep against the Lakers. Amen Thompson scored 23 points, Tari Eason had 20 points, Alperen Sengun notched 19 points, Reed Sheppard got 17 points, and Jabari Smith Jr. popped off for 16 points. This is the first time since 1997 that a Rockets team achieved this feat in the NBA Playoffs. Who played in that game? It was Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals which featured Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Matt Maloney, and Mario Ellie, per ESPN Insights
Eason also took home an NBA Playoffs record for himself. His 20-point, eight-rebound, and five-steal performance against the Lakers was only the third for a Rockets player in the postseason. Eason joined Olajuwon and Chris Paul as the only players to have reached those numbers in a Rockets jersey.
Game 4 is only the start. If the Rockets are able to turn things around in this Lakers series, they will go down in history.
