Barcelona star wants to remain at club at all costs amid uncertainy over permanent move

Over the past few weeks, it has started to become clear that FC Barcelona are having major doubts about signing Marcus Rashford permanently in the summer.

The on-loan forward enjoyed a strong run of form in the first half of the season, but things have gone downhill for him of late, with form and regular minutes both deserting him.

At a time when he was expected to step up in Raphinha’s absence, the Manchester United loanee failed to do so, with Hansi Flick turning to the likes of Gavi and Fermin Lopez to fill in on the left flank.

As such, the idea of a permanent transfer for the Englishman by activating his €30 million purchase clause is starting to fade.

Marcus Rashford wants to stay

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Rashford does not see his future anywhere other than at Barcelona next season.

Despite being under contract with Manchester United until 2028, the English forward’s immediate plans do not include a return to Old Trafford. Instead, he is determined to remain at the Spotify Camp Nou, where he believes the team’s style suits his qualities better.

The forward considers this scenario realistic and believes he is doing enough to justify his stay. He has contributed to Barça’s attacking output by being involved in 26 goals in 2,333 minutes, scoring 13, providing 11 assists, and winning two penalties.

Despite the growing uncertainty, Rashford is confident he will remain at the club. Months ago, he reached a preliminary contractual agreement, with all financial terms defined, in the event that Barcelona activate the €30 million purchase option available until June.

The deal, which could also take the form of another loan, will not be easy to finalise even if approval is given. Barcelona are aiming to reduce the fee, and the player’s age, as he will turn 29 in October, implies a short-term contract and therefore a higher amortisation cost.

The England international feels settled and valued within a squad he considers the most complete and the best in the world.

His rotation in and out of the starting line-up, even in the absence of Raphinha, does not cause frustration. He understands that he is competing among a group of high-level players, all capable of starting.

Sources at the club’s training ground indicate that his behaviour, attitude, and commitment are beyond question. Hansi Flick values him, although some of his performances in certain matches have raised doubts.

Rashford would ideally like to resolve his future before the World Cup. It remains to be seen what Barcelona decide regarding his continuity.
