One of the most important late-stage matches of the 2025/26 Premier League season takes the Stamford Bridge pitch as Champions League places are up for grabs when Manchester United visits Chelsea on Saturday evening.
The Red Devils have made a charge up the standings under interim manager Michael Carrick, sitting third in the standings with 55 points. Yet they are closely challenged by those behind them, with Aston Villa level on points in fourth, Liverpool sit three points behind in fifth, and Chelsea reside a further five points behind in sixth.
The Blues are in a dire position, as their Champions League hopes rest firmly on the line with just six games to go the rest of the season, and beating those directly above them in the standings would go a long way towards a miraculous late-season comeback.

Chelsea vs. Man United key moments
67th min: Chance, Chelsea! THE BLUES HIT THE WOODWORK AGAIN! Wesley Fofana is the one who is denied by the crossbar, after great work from Pedro Neto who is having a great game.
56th min: Chance, Chelsea! Liam Delap's header hits the crossbar! Chelsea come so close to breaking their goalless streak, but can't capitalise as they fall short of punishing Man United's momentary lapse!
HALFTIME: Chelsea 0-1 Man United
The halftime break has arrived with United leading by a goal thanks to Cunha's finish from a Fernandes cross.
While the United goal is the headline, Chelsea's inability to capitalise on their 25 minutes of good pressure is also a big storyline today. They have now gone 341 minutes of Premier League football without a goal, which is over 5-1/2 hours of top flight play.
Can Liam Rosenior turn around this scoreline, or will Chelsea fall further back in the race for Champions League places, while Man United all but lock in their spot?
43rd min: GOAL! MAN UNITED! MATHEUS CUNHA STRIKES BEFORE HALFTIME!
Chelsea are reduced to 10 men momentarily as Wesley Fofana picks up an injury and has to come off the pitch, and on the restart, Bruno Fernandes races to the byline out wide and sends a bobbling cross to the penalty spot, and Matheus Cunha finishes the chance beyond a charging Robert Sanchez!
It's extremely poor from Chelsea not to stop that cross, which did not have particularly strong pace or precision yet somehow squirted through the entire Chelsea defensive ssetup.
It's an 18th assist of the season for Fernandes, who is two away from equaling the Premier League record!

38th min: Chance, Chelsea! Liam Delap has put the ball in the net from close range, but the offside flag is up! It's a letoff for Senne Lammens, who made a complete mess of that possession as he parried Enzo Fernandez's slow-roller of a shot which saw Cole Palmer collect the rebound and send it across to Delap free on the doorstep.
Chelsea have continued to have the better attacking play of the first half, routinely getting forward and testing the Man United back line. So far, it has not resulted in anything on the score sheet, however.
13th min: Chelsea have started as by far the better side, but the Blues have a big problem now as Estevao seems to have hurt himself having over-stretched to meet a through-ball and pulling a muscle. Alejandro Garnacho, a former Manchester United player, is warming up on the touchline and may have to come on, which would be a worry for Chelsea because the young Brazilian has been good to start the game.
Indeed, Garnacho will come on to replace the injured winger...once he's finished putting on his boots.
Kickoff: They're under way at Stamford Bridge! One of the most important matches in the race for Champions League qualification in the Premier League standings.
Lineups: The starting XI is in for both sides, and there are already some fascinating twists to this match.
Most notably, Chelsea are without Joao Pedro in the matchday squad, with Ben Jacobs reporting that the Brazilian has a "minor issue with his thigh." Liam Delap starts up front, with Marc Guiu on the bench.
For Man United, who are in the midst of a centre-back injury crisis, Noussair Mazraoui has had to start in the middle of the back line, with no Lenny Yoro in the squad. Kobbie Mainoo passes fit, a bonus to the midfield, while Amad Diallo starts on the bench as Benjamin Sesko gets the nod up front.
Prematch: Chelsea made the switch from Enzo Maresca to Liam Rosenior in early January, believing it was time to bring on the Strasbourg boss they groomed to be Chelsea's long-term boss.
Yet 21 games into his Blues tenure, he has won just 11 games, or 52 percent of his matches, while losing eight ofthem and drawing two. It's a mediocre record at best that has left many Chelsea supporters unconvinced of his credentials to lead the club moving forward.
Can he prove he is the man for the job by beating a team above them in the table while chasing a late-season charge into the Champions League places? They can ill-afford to see the five-point gap widen even further!
