Toronto man accused of threatening protesters; pedestrian critically hurt in Rexdale

A 55-year-old Toronto man has been charged after protesters were allegedly threatened with death on Friday in the downtown area.

Toronto Police said demonstrators were protesting Friday at about 4 p.m. in the Yonge-Bloor Sts. area, where the accused allegedly approached, repeatedly yelled at and threatened to kill protesters.

The accused allegedly continued to make threats when officers arrived.

Seyed Majid Reza Zahadi was arrested and charged with uttering threats.

The charges were announced on Sunday, the same day that two other people were arrested at another downtown protest at about 4:30 p.m. in the University Ave.-Armoury St. rea.

It was unclear if any charges were laid.

DRIVER CHARGED AFTER PEDESTRIAN CRITICALLY HURT

A Brampton man is facing dangerous driving charges after a male pedestrian was critically injured by a vehicle Saturday night in Rexdale.

Toronto Police said they responded to a personal injury collision at about 9:30 p.m in the Islington Ave.-Albion Rd. area, where a 58-year-old pedestrian was walking on a sidewalk on the south side of Albion.

Police said a red Toyota Corolla travelling westbound on Albion crossed over into the eastbound lanes before mounting the sidewalk and striking the pedestrian. The vehicle continued through a parking lot and struck a fence and two parked cars before the driver allegedly fled from the scene on foot.

The pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, while two passengers in the Corolla received minor injuries.

Suraju Ishau, 40, surrendered to police on Sunday and was charged with two counts each of dangerous operation/bodily harm and leaving an accident scene/bodily harm.

HAMILTON COPS PROBE ARENA ASSAULT

Hamilton Police are investigating a “disturbance” Sunday night at Rosedale Arena in the city’s east end.

Police said the incident, which they called an assault, happened at about 7:30 p.m. and they asked anyone who was aware of it to contact Division 2 at 905-546-2963.
