McIlroy has followed in the footsteps of Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods in achieving the feat, having secured a one-shot victory at Augusta.
He finished on 12-under to edge out his nemesis Scottie Scheffler, with Rose finishing joint third on 10-under with Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Young and Russell Henley.
It continues a heartbreaking theme for the Englishman at The Masters, where he has finished as runner-up on three occasions.
But despite his disappointment at another near miss, Rose was still able to deliver a classy message about the patrons at Augusta.
Justin Rose touched by ‘beautiful’ ovation from Augusta patrons on hole 18
When asked afterwards how it felt coming onto the 18th with the crowd giving him a standing ovation and calling out his name, he said: “Nice.
“It was nice.
“Felt like the crowd was amazing to me all week long.
“They pulled for me all week long.
“I felt their encouragement and support.
“At the end it kind of goes a little flat.
“It’s more of a sympathy than anything.
“But it was still nonetheless very beautiful. But, yeah, another little stinger, yeah.”
And giving his thoughts on why he received such a reaction from the patrons, he suggested: “I think people just know I play hard.
“I try hard. I’ve been close.
“You know, yeah, I think they just appreciate the effort I guess, yeah.”
He certainly deserved such respect from those in attendance, who were grateful to witness another classy performance from the veteran.

Rose had another fantastic chance to claim a second career major win this week, having been in a similar situation at Augusta this time last year.
Back then, however, he fell at a later hurdle, narrowly losing to McIlroy in a playoff.
Comparing the feeling of surging late in 2025 to being in a great position halfway through this Sunday, he said: “Yeah, I feel like with a sudden death loss you kind of know you got to the house.
“You’ve done everything it took to win. Then it comes down to [a] flick of a coin at times.
“Whereas today I felt like, yeah, there was an opportunity to do better, so obviously that is frustrating for sure.”
He was one of a number of players in contention heading into the final day of the tournament, which started with McIlroy and Young tied on 11-under.
But the defending champion did just about enough to see off any challenge, claiming his sixth major title in the process.
It remains to be seen just how many more wins he can secure at Augusta and further afield, with the same question now going to be asked of Rose, particularly at The Masters.
The 45-year-old just made his 21st start at the tournament, but has continually failed to get over the line, albeit only just on several occasions.
But he definitely deserves all of the love he received this week, which along with another near miss should motivate him to come back again next year and really push for the green jacket.
