When he took his usual place at Progressive Field on Monday night, Ramirez snapped a long-standing mark for games played with 1,620.

Is he proving to be the best player in franchise history?

Ramirez snapped the games-played record previously held by infielder Terry Turner, who appeared in his final game for the franchise on Sept. 1, 1918.

Will Ramirez hold the new record for 107 years? Probably not. Probably a lot longer, considering he’s under contract through the 2032 campaign.

Is Jose Ramirez just starting to set team records?

Ramirez’s record-setting game wasn’t overly memorable. He went 0-for-2, with two bases on balls and the Guardians fell to the visiting Kansas City Royals, 4-2.

The Guardians franchise continues to prep for a series of record-setting events for Ramirez.

Here is a list of potential franchise records Ramirez, a 14-year veteran who is trending to become the MLB’s ninth member of the 300 home run/300 stolen base fraternity this season, could eventually break and where he currently ranks:

  • Home runs: 286, second.
  • Steals: 289, second.
  • Doubles: 400, third.
  • Hits: 1,674, seventh.

When looking at the two players who played the most games in franchise history, Ramirez and Turner had differing talents. A defensive specialist in the deadball era, Turner batted .254, with eight homers in 6,523 plate appearances.

Turner made his own history, getting credited with inventing the head-first slide. He executed the slides because he claimed the traditional slides injured his ankles.

Ramirez notched one significant franchise record Monday, but before the Guardians icon retires, he could possess several more top marks.
