"Some pretty good pitching over there," Schumaker said. "Chase Burns is pretty good... He's throwing 100 mph for seven innings. So he was really effective. Slider was at 93, 94 mph. I mean, it was a tough assignment today against him."

Chase Burns Wins Pitcher's Duel vs. Jack Leiter

The Reds' pitching is their strength. There is going to be no shortage of pitcher's duels this year when the Reds play baseball, and that is exactly what occurred on Sunday.

Chase Burns allowed just one run across six innings. He only walked one hitter and struck out nine. The right-handed pitcher was a top prospect and he is meeting his expectations early in the new season.

However, Jack Leiter impressed for the Rangers as well. He also struck out nine hitters across five innings of work. He allowed only one run as well.

The Reds bullpen ultimately out-performed the Rangers' bullpen en route to earning the victory. Pitching told the story of the game, though.

Offensively, Elly De La Cruz had two hits to go along with one RBI and one run scored. Eugenio Suarez also had a hit and an RBI. The lineup did just enough to help the Reds get the victory.

However, Cincinnati's lineup has been underwhelming overall. The Reds are 29th in runs scored with only 26 through nine contests. As talented as the pitching is, this team is going to need more offensive productivity if they are going to make a legitimate postseason run.

Still, the pitching is talented to say the least.

Reds' Upcoming Schedule

Cincinnati swept the Rangers this past weekend despite scoring only nine total runs in Texas. It was an encouraging road performance even though the lineup failed to produce on a consistent basis. The Reds' pitching surrendered only four total runs, however.

The Reds will continue their road trip this week against the Marlins in Miami. In Miami, the Reds and Marlins will play four games from Monday-Thursday. Cincinnati will then return home for a six-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants.

For now, they will focus on their upcoming series in Miami. Monday night's first pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST as the Reds look to earn their fourth consecutive victory. Brandon Williamson is set to take the mound for the Reds against Marlins pitcher Janson Junk.
