Federal offender caught; Brampton boy accused of vandalizing Tamil memorial

The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R.O.P.E.) Squad says federal offender, Lisa Hutchinson, who went unlawfully at large on Dec. 27 has been caught in Hamilton.

Hutchinson is is serving a five-year and four-month sentence for possession of schedule I/III substances for the purpose of trafficking.

MEMORIAL VANDALIZED

A 14-year-old Brampton boy is accused of vandalizing the Tamil Genocide Memorial at Chinguacousy Park with derogatory spray-painted messages.

Peel Regional Police say officers responded to Chinguacousy Park on March 20 after reports that the memorial had been defaced and confirmed the vandalism once on scene.

The investigation immediately assigned to the Hate Crime Unit.

Following a thorough investigation, a teenage boy was arrested and charged with two counts of mischief over $5,000 on Tuesday.

“Peel Regional Police will not tolerate vandalism — especially hate-motivated crimes of spaces that are meaningful to our communities,” PRP Chief Nishan Duraiappah said in a statement.

“People across the region have the right to feel safe in public spaces,” he said. “We thank our Hate Crime Unit for acting swiftly to locate and hold those responsible accountable.”

The Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits the release of the name of the accused.
