New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson faced significant backlash online after posting a scripture in apparent support of former Chicago Bulls player Jaden Ivey, who was released after calling Pride Month "unrighteousness" in a social media post.

Henderson, a devout Christian, posted a Bible scripture on X as part of a retweet of Ivey's initial message.

"'Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.' Matthew 5:10," Henderson posted.

When appearing at the NFL's annual league meeting on Tuesday, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was asked to respond to Henderson's social media post. While the coach acknowledged that he wants players to feel comfortable enough to share their personal beliefs, he also wants them to understand that the Patriots are an "inclusive" organization.

"I love TreVeyon. I love the person. He cares deeply about our team. He cares deeply about his faith. He cares deeply about his family, his wife, the people in our building," said Vrabel. "And so, I want them to be able to express what they believe in their heart and in their mind, but I also want to make sure that they're educated, and we want to be inclusive. Everything we want to do, want to provide an environment for people to, want to feel comfortable, but also to share their personal beliefs. And also, we represent the team, and we represent the organization."

Henderson took the NFL by storm in his rookie year, racking up 180 carries for 911 yards and nine touchdowns in an offensive backfield shared with Rhamondre Stevenson last season.

Meanwhile, Ivey, the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, now faces uncertainty as a free agent.
