Browns GM Andrew Berry speaks on swirling Myles Garrett trade rumors

Ever since the Cleveland Browns re-worked the contract of reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, the trade rumors have been swirling. The move does not provide any cap relief, and the only incentive to push back the option bonus date is to keep open a window to trade the player without the bonus already kicked in.
However, at the NFL owners' meeting in Phoenix, general manager Andrew Berry has vehemently denied any possibility of trading the perennial All-Pro and future first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Here is what the Browns general manager had to say on the status of their All-World defensive end following the contract re-working:
"lf we wanted to trade Myles, we wouldn’t have needed to make a contract adjustment. So it doesn't have anything to do with that. … Myles is a career Brown. He is one of the faces of our organization. I think we've been very clear both past and present…”
Where do the Browns go from here?
Whether the Browns want to openly state this opens the possibility to trade Garrett, there is no other reason to make this move. With the 2026 NFL Draft less than a month away, it is unlikely that they strike a deal before then, but before the 2027 NFL Draft? The Browns can strike that deal without eating Garrett's 2027 option bonus.
Whether the Browns trade Garrett or not is a different story. However, that's the reason the move was made.
For now, their defensive end depth sits with Garrett, Alex Wright, Isaiah McGuire, and the newly-signed A.J. Epenesa. This will be the likely rotation once we get to the regular season, should Garrett be on the roster by the time Week 1 rolls around.
