French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the fast action made by authorities thwarted “a violent act of a terrorist nature overnight in Paris.

“Vigilance remains at a very high level,“ Nunez added. ”I commend all security and intelligence forces, fully mobilized under my authority in the current international context.”

Suspects tried to light device: Cops

The alleged incident took place early Saturday morning when cops spotted two suspects carrying a shopping bag near the Bank of America building on Rue de la Boetie in Paris’ eighth arrondissement.

One of the suspects used a lighter to try igniting the device, while a second suspect managed to get away, police said.

The suspect told authorities he had been contacted over Snapchat and paid €600 (about $960) to carry out the bombing, Le Parisien reported.

A Bank of America spokesperson said the company was “aware of the situation” and communicating with authorities.

Since the outbreak of the U.S. and Israel’s war in Iran four weeks ago, European countries have been on high alert for potential attacks.
