CAPE TOWN AREAS SET TO FACE PLANNED WATER SHUTDOWN

The City of Cape Town said planned maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements, will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Part of Retreat – The water supply will be temporarily shut off to the area bounded by Victoria Road, Flora Road, Bud Road, Coller Road, and possible surrounds in Retreat from 09:00 until 19:30 on Tuesday, 31 March. Additionally, the water supply will be temporarily shut off again to the area bounded by Victoria Road, Allenby Drive, Petal Road, Coller Road, and possible surrounds in Retreat from 09:00 until 19:30 on Thursday, 2 April.

Part of Oranjezicht – Similarly, the water supply to Upper Orange Street, Alexandra Avenue, Belvedere Avenue, Belmont Avenue, Jagersfontein Avenue, Jagersfontein Lane, Prince Street, and possible surrounds in Oranjezicht will be temporarily shut off from 08:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 31 March. “This forms part of the pipe replacement project in the area and will enable the maintenance team to replace valves and connect the temporary water supply pipelines to the existing water supply infrastructure,” the City of Cape Town said.

Helena Heights – Somerset West – The water supply to Helena Heights in Somerset West will be temporarily shut off from 09:00 until 16:00 on Wednesday, 1 April, to enable the maintenance team to install a water meter on the water main to the area.

Part of Steenberg – Lastly, the Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will also temporarily shut off the water supply to the area bounded by Orchestra Street, Verdi Street, Rossini Street, Wagner Way, Military Road and possible surrounds in Steenberg from 09:00 until 19:30 on Wednesday, 1 April 2026 as well as on Thursday, 2 April 2026 from 09:00 until 19:30.

“This will enable the safe completion of connections to the existing water supply infrastructure at the intersections of Verdi Street and Orchestra Street and Haydn Street and Orchestra Street in Steenberg. This area will experience no water during this period,” the City of Cape Town added.

WYNBERG RESERVOIR NO.1 SHUTDOWN

As part of ongoing maintenance in Cape Town, the Wynberg Reservoir No.1 will be shut off temporarily from 08:00 on Monday, 30 March, until 20:00 on Friday, 3 April to allow for the annual planned maintenance work to be done to the operational components of the reservoir.

Notably, this will not impact the water supply to any areas in the Southern Suburbs as the water supply will be rerouted via Wynberg Reservoir No.2. Residents and businesses in these areas are, however, requested to reduce their water consumption during this period.
