Islam Makhachev says there was no weight discrepancy between him and Dustin Poirier when they fought.
Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) submitted Poirier in the fifth round to retain his lightweight title at UFC 302 in June 2024. On the latest episode of "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, Poirier claimed he found out from the UFC that Makhachev outweighed him by almost 15 pounds on fight day.

"Hunter (Campbell) from the UFC, I was in his office not too long ago, and they keep record of all the weights fight night," Poirier said. "They don't release it all, but they keep it. We were talking about the Islam fight, when I fought Islam, and he was telling me his weight, and I was like that's insane, 192 (pounds) or something, I think. I think so, 190, 191, something around there. I was 176. I looked across under those spotlights, and he had veins in his shoulders and sh*t. I'm like, 'F*ck, this guy's huge.'"
Makhachev denied Poirier's claim by revealing he has never weighed more than 176 pounds.
